Data Tools

IT Infrastructure Overview

Our IT infrastructure supports secure data collection, training, open access data, and collaboration among partners. We use the following platforms:

  • REDCap – for electronic data capture (EDC)
  • Moodle – for hosting our online training programmes
  • Zenodo – for open-access data, hosted by CERN
  • Sync.com – for secure project-specific collaboration

Each platform plays a key role in managing data responsibly and enabling regional cooperation.

REDCap – Electronic Data Capture

REDCap is our secure, web-based platform for building and managing online surveys and databases. It supports:

  • Real-time data collection and entry
  • User roles and permissions for data access
  • Export options for analysis
  • Full audit trails for compliance and quality

Our REDCap system includes built-in security features such as role-based access, data logging, and user authentication. We host our REDCap software on GDPR-compliant servers with our partners at HIPAA Vault to ensure strong data privacy protections and safe handling of sensitive information.

Moodle – Training Platform

Hosted at: moodle.caribdata.org/lms

Moodle is our virtual learning environment. It allows us to:

  • Deliver certified online training in data handling, analysis, and storytelling
  • Host self-paced and instructor-led courses
  • Track user progress and issue certificates
  • Integrate multimedia and interactive content

Our Moodle platform supports our capacity-building work across the region.

Zenodo – Open Access Data Repository

Hosted at: zenodo.org/communities/caribdata

Zenodo is an open-access data repository hosted by CERN. We use it to:

  • Share curated, non-sensitive datasets
  • Assign DOIs for citation and reuse
  • Support long-term storage and open science
  • Meet international standards for data transparency

Zenodo helps increase visibility and trust in data from our Caribbean partners.

Sync.com – Secure Collaboration

Sync.com is a secure, end-to-end encrypted cloud storage system. It provides:

  • Project-specific “spaces” for data producers
  • Controlled access for uploading sensitive files
  • Canadian-based hosting with GDPR-level privacy
  • File versioning and backup to prevent data loss

We use Sync.com to protect sensitive information and support safe collaboration among partners.
