Project Outputs

Our CaribData outputs are organised into 4 project Components. These infrastructure outputs are designed to be scalable for the region.

Component 1: Data Infrastructure

Key outputs from our data infrastructure work are listed below. Each output is described in detail in our section on Data Infrastructure

  • Data Assessments (1)

We have performed an example data audit for one campus of the University of the West Indies, creating a resource kit of datasets, data producers, and potential data stories. Additionally, we have developed and are conducting a survey of data-handling needs assessment among the NSOs. For more information, follow this link.

  • Data Handling Infrastructure (2)

We have developed and are managing a free-for-use platform (REDCap electronic data capture software) for secure data collection and data storage. We are offering this platform to data producers requiring a best-practice regional solution for electronic data capture. For more information, follow this link. We also provide access to a free-for-use data repository, for housing and giving wide access to open-access regional data resources. For more information, follow this link.

  • Data Infrastructure Training & Support (4)

Based on specific requests from our NSO beneficiaries, we have developed two REDCap training courses for NSO employees, one for platform users, and one for platform administrators. We also provide same-day REDCap support for our REDCap data producers. For more information on our infrastructure training and support, follow this link..

  • CaribData Sustainability (5)

CaribData includes a funded sub-project to develop a future project sustainability plan, to map out options available at the end of our first-round IDB funding. For more information training, follow this link.

Component 2: Storytelling

Key outputs from our data storytelling work are listed below. Each output is described in detail in our section on Data Storytelling

  • Storytelling Training (1)

We're delivering two training products on the theme of data storytelling. The first was delivered to an open audience and introduced the ideas and concepts behind data stroytelling and CaribData. The second is a 6-part storytelling training programme to help data producers develop data stories from their data. For more information, follow this link..

  • The Storython (2)

Linked to our storytelling training, we're organising a 'storython' - a competition where teams are asked to create compelling insights and stories from a pre-defined data resource. For more information, follow this link.. Storython prizes are available for winning entrants, with these winners then contributing to a future ecosystem of storytellers as part of the CaribData sustainability plan.

  • Data Stories & Studies (3)

Our main output here is the production of peer-reviewed academic outputs, created as part of our specific outreach to data producers, data decision-makers, and the research community. For more information, follow this link. We're also developiing a process for the creation of impactful data stories, using data insights to build stories tailored to specific audiences. For more information on our storytelling, follow this link.

Component 3: Policy Reviews and Guidelines

Key outputs from our policy review work are listed below. These outputs are described in detail in our section on Data Policies and Guidelines

  • Data Legislation Reviews (1)

We have produced systematic reviews of national data legislation, comparing details with an international gold-standard, and assessing the impact of this legislation on the national open data practices of 1 NSO (Belize). For more information on our data policy reviews, follow this link.

  • Data Guides (2)

We've created a series of data guides for data producers. For more information, Follow this link..

    Output 3.2 (Policy Briefs Completed).

Component 4: Project Coordination, Communication & Evaluation

Our project operations, marketing, and reporting are introduced below. These outputs are described in detail in our section on Project Coordination & Reporting

Through the life of the project our team have presented numerous times at various conferences, workshops and training events (1).

  • Talks

We talk to a lot of people about data, and about CaribData. We've gathered togather some of our more formal talks, presentations, and so on. For more information, follow this link.

  • Academic Articles

For more information on our published articles, follow this link..

  • Marketing Activities (2)

As part of our project sustainability, we are developing our marketing and public awareness strategies, follow this link.

  • Project Reporting (3)

We produce and submit 6-monthly and annual reports to the IDB. This outputs website has also been created to make our projects outputs as transparent as possible to a wider audience. For more information, follow this link.

  • Project Evaluation (4)

Our project will commission a final evaluation report, and will also commission an external financial audit of operations and outputs. For more information on our project evaluation process, follow this link.
